Armed Citizen® Today

A woman defended herself with a firearm after an armed intruder tried to force his way inside her Brandon, Fla., apartment in the early morning hours of Sunday, Aug. 9.

Around 4:30 a.m., the woman heard a knock at the door and went to answer. She cracked open the door but wasn't able to see who was at the door. An intruder with a handgun then pushed the door open and started arguing with the woman. The intruder then confronted a man inside the apartment and shot him in the lower body. After the intruder shot the man, the woman retreated to the bedroom.

In the bedroom, the woman armed herself with a firearm before going back into the living room. Once she got back to the living room, the woman argued more with the intruder who was still near the front door. The intruder then opened fire and the woman returned fire. The woman managed to hit the intruder, who fell dead. The woman was not injured in the incident. Authorities believe the woman and intruder knew each other. (patch.com

Store owner Joseph Hillis was suspicious when a customer warned him that two men were "casing" his Palms, Calif., business. Two armed mean wearing stocking masks later entered the store and told the clerk to "get that guy (Hillis) out of the back room." The owner, from a peep-hole in his office, shouted a warning and then opened fire with a 12-ga. shotgun.

One suspect died; the other was charged with murder on the grounds that he had taken part in a crime in which a person was killed. (The Santa Monica Evening Outlook, Santa Monica, Calif.)
