Armed Citizen® Today

An Elmore County, Ala. man along with his wife and young child were awakened at 4:55 A.M. by someone banging at the door of their trailer. The man grabbed his 9 mm handgun and went to the door to investigate. When he got to the door, he discovered a neighbor standing there.

The neighbor cursed at the man and demanded items that supposedly belonged to him. At that point, the neighbor reached down for something in his pocket. The man, fearing that the neighbor was going for a gun, drew his 9 mm handgun. He shot four to five times, hitting the neighbor in the head, bicep, shoulder and left leg, critically wounding him. After the incident, the man dialed 911.

The neighbor was airlifted to a Montgomery, Ala. hospital. Authorities also found a crack pipe in his sock. The neighbor had a criminal history and spent time in prison previously. He also had a prior history of confrontation with a least one other neighbor prior to the incident. (AL.com, Birmingham, Ala., 02/24/2020)

From the Armed Citizen® Archives July 1986

Posing as a package carrier, a man forced his way into Charisse Gross' Baltimore, Md., home, drew a handgun and demanded money and jewelry. The gunman herded the 28-year-old woman upstairs to her son's bedroom, where he attempted to tie up the boy. While he was distracted, Gross slipped away, grabbed her .38, and fired at the intruder, striking him. The man fled and a suspect was arrested later by authorities. (The Sun, Baltimore, Md.)
