Benelli’s 2015 release of the 828U over-under shotgun revealed both a ground-breaking design and confirmation that, occasionally, a real surprise emerges from the likes of such companies as the renowned Italian maker better known for its semi-automatics.

Initially, only two iterations of the 12-ga. 828U were available, each featuring an aluminum alloy receiver. Now the company has unveiled its first-ever over-under with enhanced ergonomics and specific features demanded by serious sporting-clays shooters. The 828U Sport 12 gauge has 30” barrels and comes with five extended nickel chokes. It is also built around a steel receiver, which lends additional weight between the hands for even better ballance. Further, it features an improved grip angle and a comb height designed to complement its wide carbon fiber rib and sight channel.

The new 828U retains the original’s unique Lock Plate closing system, which eliminates mechanical stress on the action’s locking points. Its trigger features improved pull weight characteristics and length-adjustable positioning. Fine-tuned handling comes from the gun’s patented Progressive Balancing system, which includes an anatomically refined stock design and tunable drop and cast. The barrels feature an anti-glare matte finish, with the top bearing a channeled, raised rib and white front bead. The stock and fore-end are satin-finished and cut from AA walnut.

The 828U Sport will come with five chokes (C/IC/M/IM/F), drop and cast shims, weights, a trigger tool, a choke wrench, an oil bottle and an owner's manual. Chambers handle 2¾” and 3” shells, and the gun comes in at 47¼” in overall length and slightly more than 8 lbs. Length of pull is 14.75”; drop at Heel is 2.25”; and drop at comb is 1.62”.
