Elderly people don’t always acquiesce to playing the victim. In Indiana, an 82-year-old who was home alone warded off a would-be burglar. While the suspect was trying to remove a window air conditioner, the resident called 9-1-1, but the police didn’t respond before he broke in. After a physical altercation, the homeowner accessed his defensive gun and fired twice at the intruder, causing him to flee. (theindychannel.com, Indianapolis, IN, 6/11/17)

Late one night, a family was asleep in their home when they were awakened by an intruder breaking into their house through a window. The male homeowner retrived his gun and shot and killed the trespasser standing in his living room. (Tribune Star, Indianapolis, IN, 6/6/17)

Hearing several shots from his son’s store in Detroit, Mich., Anthony Radovic, 81, grabbed a gun, ran into the store, and found his son wrestling with an armed robber. The elder Radovic fired several shots, critically wounding the hold-up man. (Detroit Free Press, Detroit, MI)
