Early one morning, a family was awakened by a group of masked armed men who had broken into their home. The armed intruders tied up the mother, twin teenage boys and their younger sister. They then pistol-whipped the father and one of the boys, and held the mother at gunpoint. The burglars then shouted at the family, demanding to know where they kept their valuables. Fortunately, an uncle that lived nearby had come to investigate after he heard a commotion. The uncle confronted the robbers and shot two of them, killing one and wounding the other. The other two escaped. (Houston Chronicle, Houston, TX, 5/9/17)

A man entered a Waterbury, Conn., liquor store, snuck up on owner Frank Tuttolo, and slugged him on the back of the head. The attacker then shoved Tuttolo to the floor, threw the cash register on him, and began punching him in the face and groin. Tuttolo was able to reach a pistol under the counter and fire several shots. His assailant, wounded in the neck, fled but was later apprehended by police. (The Republican, Waterbury, CT)
