Uber has a policy barring firearms, but a Florida driver and his fare are alive today because the driver didn’t follow the rules. The ride-sharing employee was taking a client to the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport when a minivan suddenly cut him off in traffic on a busy street. A man then exited the driver’s side of the van with two handguns drawn and attempted to rob those in the car. Instead of getting any money, the gunman got shot. The Uber driver drew his concealed firearm and exchanged fire with the assailant. The attacker, who was shot multiple times, died on the scene, and his accomplice drove the van away. Two of man’s best friends earned their nickname after alerting their masters, who were asleep, to an intruder in their home. The two residents caught the prowler burglarizing their home, and held him at gunpoint until police arrived. The criminal then tried to run from the home but police caught him and charged him with burglary of an inhabited dwelling. (WTVA, Tupelo, MS, 3/24/17)

March 1963
Aroused at 2 a.m. by noises coming from the back bedroom of his Houston, Texas, home, Willie I. McDonald armed himself with a cal. 44 pistol and went to investigate. Finding a man going through bureau drawers, he held the intruder at gunpoint while he called police. As McDonald hung up the phone, the intruder rushed at him with a hammer. McDonald fired four quick shots, three of which struck the bandit. (Houston Post, Houston, TX)
