Officials said no charges will be filed against a Louisiana man who killed an intruder near his back door. The LaPlace, La., resident told police he heard voices coming from his backyard one evening. He opened the door and looked out, spying two strangers, one of whom rushed him. The homeowner responded by shooting, and the man later died. Detectives described the suspect as an ex-con who was under the influence of synthetic marijuana. (nola.com, New Orleans, LA, 9/13/17)

When two robbers barged into a Verizon store, one of the criminals pointed a gun at the clerk’s head and told him, “make it easy on me.” In fear for his life, the clerk pulled his own licensed gun from his waistband and fired, wounding the intruder, while the other accomplice fled. The clerk told authorities he believed he had fired three shots. The wounded criminal was charged with first-degree aggravated robbery and being a felon in possession of a firearm.
