Two teens are dead after their attempted robbery of a liquor store was ended by an armed employee. The duo, at least one of whom was armed with a handgun, entered the store, located on Chicago’s South Side, and announced the robbery. Responding to the threat, a male worker produced his own firearm and fired on both suspects. No injuries to the shop’s employee were reported. (Chicago Sun Times, Chicago, IL, 1/11/16)

Army sergeant Wilford Woodruff, his wife and three of their children were watching television in the family’s Ft. Gordon, Ga., home when two pistol-wielding thugs smashed their way inside. Sgt. Woodruff immediately started grappling with the pair while his wife got the children out of the way. With the kids now safe, Mrs. Woodruff got a .44 Mag. revolver and went to help her husband. She found him wounded from the fight and opened fire on the bandits, killing one and critically injuring the other. Mrs. Woodruff was declared to have acted in self-defense, and was not charged.
