German optics are renowned for their superb image quality and top-notch craftsmanship, but they also have a reputation for sporting hefty price tags. Leica has been able to maintain the former while eliminating the latter with its new ER 5 riflescopes, which are engineered in Germany but made in America—with American tastes in mind. Six different models comprise the line, ranging from a close-quarters 1-5X 24 mm to a 5-25X 56 mm long-range variant, each boasting the optical quality that's synonymous with the Leica name. Standard features include 4" of eye relief, perfect for heavy-hitting big-bores and magnums; low-profile, 1/4-m.o.a. turrets, not the 1/3 m.o.a. common in Europe; one-piece, 30 mm, aerospace-grade aluminum tubes; and waterproof, fogproof construction, even with the turret caps off. And the price tag? Depending on the model, ER 5 riflescopes are priced from $749 to $1,429—downright cheap by German optics standards. For more, visit LeicaSportOptics.com.
