Pennsylvania’s Conoy Township—home to more than 3,353 people—has erected 16 signs that proudly proclaim, “Welcome to Conoy Twp. This is not a gun free zone.” Township Supervisor Steve Mohr explained, “We want to welcome people to come in, but let them know if they’re here for criminal activity, they’re not welcome.” undefined

Total cost is around $500, although the final bill has not arrived. Mohr explained the board of supervisors considers it a sound investment, especially when the township pays $166.38 a year for each resident to underwrite law enforcement coverage from the Susquehanna Regional Police force—a unit that covers another township and borough. To put it in perspective, he explained, “So the cost of these signs is equal to a family of three or four.”

The decision was unanimous among the five board members—and only three of them are gun owners to Mohr’s knowledge. The news made national headlines, and “We’ve been inundated by people wanting to buy identical signs,” he said. Anyone interested can contact the Conoy Township Municipal Office and profits will go to local non-profit organizations (they didn’t have anything set up yet, so be patient).
