Looking for your next ultra lightweight hunting rifle? Consider a Forbes Rifle. Among the many vendors here at NRA's Annual Meetings & Exhibits in Indianapolis, Forbes Rifle had on display several variations of the company's short- and long-action bolt guns that weigh 4 3/4 lbs. and 5 1/2 lbs., respectively. The short-action Model 20B features a 21" No. 2 profile, button-rifled barrel, fluted, two-lug bolt, welded and machined bolt handle, a CNC-machined receiver from bar stock, Timney trigger, two-position safety, and a blind, internal three-round magazine. The straight-comb stock is made from hand laid carbon-fiber and Kevlar. The long-action Model 24B differs in its receiver and that its barrel is 24". The .35 Whelen chambering also requires a No. 2 1/2-contour barrel. The Model 20B is available in .243 Win, 7 mm-08 Rem., and .308 Win., while the Model 24B is offered in .25-06 Rem., 6.5x55 mm Swe., .270 Win., .280 Rem., .30-'06 Sprg., and .35 Whelen. Also available in left-hand versions, the rifles range between $1,499 and $1,684.
