An armed citizen in Maryland said he would have been content to “give [an intruder] a pass“ if only the troublemaker had stayed away from the bedroom. But when the suspect crashed through the bedroom door, the retired teacher said he had no choice. He fired, hitting the burglar twice. The resident had woken up around midnight to take some medicine when he heard noises and thought an animal was scuttling around outside. However, he then heard someone walking through the house. The homeowner holed up in his bedroom, but he had his gun at the ready. The evildoer fled through the basement and was caught later by police. (wusa9.com, Washington, D.C., 1/31/18)

An armed bar employee shot and killed the armed aggressor. The wounded patron was taken to a hospital and is expected to recover. No arrests have been made. (The Seattle Times, Everett, WA, 1/13/18)
