A South Bend, Ind., man was in an upstairs bedroom of his home when he heard noises at his front door. Arming himself, the resident went downstairs and found the front door kicked in. He saw an intruder and when the man moved toward him, the resident fatally shot the armed intruder. Police did not charge the resident in the shooting, saying he had the legal right to use deadly force. (The Tribune, South Bend, Ind.)
