The Armed Citizen

Armed Citizen® Today

A man began attempting to force entry into a home in Fort Smith, Ark., just before 9 p.m. on Dec. 21, 2025.

The man, wearing all black, managed to get inside the door, but a resident was able to force him out and lock it; the intruder nevertheless continued trying to force entry while screaming at those inside. The resident called 911 but also retrieved his firearm from his safe, as he feared for the lives of himself, his girlfriend and three children in the home.

When the persistent aggressor succeeded at breaking in through a window, the resident fired one shot, killing him. (nwaonline.com; Fayetteville, Ark.; 12/23/25)

From the Armed Citizen® Archives – December 1973

Dr. Grant Giles returned to his San Antonio, Tex., office one evening to find a burglar breaking into his files. When the intruder pulled a knife, Giles drew a semi-automatic pistol and fired. The wounded assailant was treated and booked for burglary and assault. (The San Antonio Express, San Antonio, Texas)
