CVA’s Cascade marks a big first for a firm that got its start selling DIY blackpowder rifle and pistol kits. The new turnbolt expands center-fire production from the break-barrel single-shots that share a common frame with CVA Accura muzzleloaders. Like most in today’s around-$500 class, the newcomer uses a round-bodied receiver and three-lug bolt, a reliable template for accuracy and handy operation. The key selling point is its 22" barrel, made in the Spanish factory of its corporate partner, Bergara. The Cascade comes with a flush, four-round detachable magazine, and accepts Savage 110-type scope bases. It sports a gray fiberglass-reinforced stock whose SoftTouch finish aids gripping. Stock extras include dual front sling swivel studs, along with a buttpad insert for adjusting length of pull. The first chamberings out of the gate are the 6.5 mm Creedmoor and .308 Win., but CVA says long-action chamberings will be available next year. cva.com
