Emergency dispatchers heard gunshots during a 9-1-1 call as a Florida man who was reporting an intrusion had to defend himself. The homeowner saw a vehicle enter the driveway of his Welleby Isles home. Three men exited the car, and two of the assailants hopped a fence leading to the caller’s backyard. The resident grabbed and loaded his shotgun and called 9-1-1. He told dispatchers that the bad guys had a brick and were trying to break a window, then he fired several times as one of the intruders entered the home. The wounded man died, and his accomplice fled. The armed citizen will not face charges. (South Florida Sun Sentinel, Sunrise, FL, 12/1/16)

The Armed Citizen® Extra
Sometimes the difference between life and death is the aid of another person. And that is exactly what a police officer found out when he was apprehending a suspect and things turned for the worst. In the middle of the altercation, the disoriented and aggressive criminal was able to gain control, ending up on top of the officer trying to take his firearm. That’s when a Good Samaritan, with a legally concealed-carry pistol, stepped in and pointed his gun at the thug, allowing the officer to detain the suspect. The Good Samaritan received the Citizens Award of Valor for his selfless act. (Mount Vernon News, Mount Vernon, OH, 7/26/16)
