It seems Nov. 1 really is All Saints Day at Springfield Armory. Exactly one year after the introduction of its first AR-platform rifle, the Saint is now being offered as a stock-free AR pistol.

Instead of a buttstock, the pistol features an SB Tactical SBX-K forearm brace in order to control recoil and enhance accuracy. Its 7.5” barrel with a 1:7” twist lends itself nicely as an ideal firearm for CQB. The 5.56 NATO (.223) chambered 416R stainless-steel barrel is Melonite-treated, making it harder than chrome and promoting more accuracy.

The pistol retains many of the high-end features popular on the Saint rifle, including Springfield Armory’s exclusive Accu-Tite tension system that is designed to eliminate shake or rattle. Upper and lower receivers are forged Type III hard-coat anodized 7075 T6 aluminum, and the muzzle is equipped with a blast diverter that pushes sound, concussion and debris forward toward the target.

The handguard is Springfield Armory’s exclusive, patent-pending free-float design, with locking tabs and a forward hand stop. An enhanced nickel boron-coated GI single-stage trigger is paired with a Bravo Company trigger guard. The pistol also contains the heavy tungsten buffer system, low-profile pinned gas block, GI style charging handle, and Bravo Company Mod 3 pistol grip—all well-proven in all Saint rifle models.

For durability, the M16 bolt carrier group is precision-machined from Carpenter 158 steel, shot peened, and magnetic-particle inspected and finished in Melonite. The Saint pistol comes standard with a Magpul Gen 3, 30-round magazine, but 10-round mags are available for state-specific compliance where applicable.

At 26.5” long and weighing less than 6 lbs., the Saint pistol positions itself in the running for a powerhouse compact home-defense firearm. MSRP: $989.

“The new Saint pistol delivers high precision and proven AR-15 capability in handgun form,” says Springfield Armory CEO Dennis Reese. “We’re always looking for new ways to give our customers more shooting options, and more firearm for the money.”

An American Rifleman editor is currently running this new gun on the range, and we'll offer a complete evaluation in the near future. For now, more information about the new Saint AR pistol can be found at springfield-armory.com.
