“They weren’t ready for that ‘nine; I had.” That is how a Detroit woman, who has a concealed-carry permit, summed things up after she used her 9 mm Luger-chambered handgun to make five intruders turn tail and fail. A strange tapping sound woke up Dietta Gueye in the middle of the night. When she heard glass shatter a few seconds later, she realized someone was trying to break in. Gueye slipped out of bed and grabbed her Glock, which was on a table under her purse. When she looked into the other room to assess the situation, she saw that three men had already entered the home and two others were outside. “I just let loose on them,” she told a reporter, saying she fired four shots—enough to chase the men away. One of the bad guys shot Gueye in the lag before he fled. The suspects have not been caught, and it is unclear whether any of them were shot; police, however, think at least one man was hit because they found no bullets inside the house. The Armed Citizen® Extra
A Lorain, Ohio, man returned home from a trip abroad to find a burglar inside his house. The criminal attacked the resident just inside the front door of his house. After a struggle, the homeowner was able to retrieve a handgun that he keeps nearby and fire several shots, at least one of which struck his attacker. Responding officers found the wounded suspect inside the home and transported him to a local hospital where he perished. While the incident is still under investigation, the resident’s story has been corroborated by witnesses of the event, and charges for the defensive use of his firearm are not expected. November 1972

Hearing screams outside his roadside camper, Orland Hughes of Stillwater, Okla., stepping out to see a man dragging a woman from a telephone booth toward a parked car. Hughes grabbed his .45-70 “buffalo gun” and fired a shot as the vehicle drove past. This caused the vehicle to veer into a ditch, which allowed the woman to escape and scramble free. Hughes held the kidnapper at gunpoint until officers arrived. (Enid Morning News, Enid, OK)
