I got a question the other day at the gun store counter. A fellow customer wanted to know about a “New York reload.” That's an easy one and another of those elusive terms that surround the lore of guns and shooting. A New York reload is another gun.

Although many autoloaders can be reloaded very quickly, nothing is quite as fast as dropping an empty or near-empty gun and drawing another one, fully loaded and ready to go. It's a little more fuss and discomfort to carry two pistols, but it can be done (I've done it).

If there was a serious possibility of getting into a gunfight in the course of your duties, I wouldn't hesitate for a minute. I have no idea where the term came from, but I suspect it was somewhere on the Eastern seaboard.
