Road rage could have turned deadly had it not been for the fact that the man with the cooler head was an armed citizen. A 23-year-old Wisconsin man had been standing in a parking lot near the automotive goods store. When a black truck whizzed by him, he yelled at the driver to slow down. The truck’s driver then threatened to shoot the man and began rummaging around for something in his truck. The pedestrian revealed his own concealed weapon and told the driver that whatever he was planning wouldn’t be worth it. The driver then fled the scene in his vehicle. A Hartford, Conn., man makes regular trips to his father’s house to check on the place, and fortunately for him he was armed during one such recent trip, as he found himself face to face with a burglar. The son arrived to find a front door open and some of his father’s belongings out of place. After climbing the staircase to the second floor, the armed citizen encountered a 43-year-old thief and held him at gunpoint until the authorities could arrive. The suspect claims he only entered the residence to use the bathroom. (The Hartford Courant, Hartford, CT, 10/9/15)

March 1979
It was New Year’s Eve in a Detroit suburb when three men—two of them carrying pistols—broke through a back window and confronted a middle-aged woman in her den. The trio demanded money and inquired as to the whereabouts of her husband. The husband then came out of the bedroom and opened fire with his shotgun. The blast injured one bandit critically and sent the other two scurrying into the arms of nearby police. (The Free Press, Detroit, MI)
