Mossberg 500 Chainsaw ZMB Edition

Love them or hate them, there’s no denying that in recent years “Zombie” products have made their mark within the shooting industry. We haven’t addressed any zombie-centric products yet on the Gun of the Week series, but we figured that now—with Halloween just a few days away—is as good a time as any. Enter the ZMB edition of the Mossberg 500 Chainsaw.

Mossberg debuted the design at SHOT Show just a few years ago, and who could blame them for climbing on to the Zombie bandwagon? By all accounts, it’s a natural progression. Built on the iconic Mossberg 500 action—a traditional choice for a “go to” home-defense shotgun—the Chainsaw is a pistol-grip pump-action shotgun with no stock. The wrap-around chainsaw-style handgrip was added to the forend to make it easier to control. The gun is meant to be fired from the hip, and the top handle allows the operator to cycle the action while simultaneously maintaining leverage above the gun to help tame muzzle flip.

Learn more about the 500 Chainsaw with the video below, hosted by Shooting Illustrated's Ed Friedman.

Or...if cops can't shoot the door hinges off or beat their way in with it as a battering ram, they can just cut their way in, with the real thing. This over/under configuration, It just makes sense!...;-)

hahaha. I think the chainsaw would be good enough for that (no pun intended).

Yeah, or IQ's equal to the zombies they believe in. Hey I've got a great idea, somebody market a chainsaw attachment you can mount underneath. Then you can use it to fend off wolves and bears with, while you're out cutting wood. That would be great! (is my IQ any better)?...

This shotgun is perfect for people with IQ's equal to room temp.

A 12 gauge shotgun is not a toy. Some people think it looks cool, but this 'thing' will just give the anti-2nd Amendment idiots more fuel to feed their fire. I can just imagine Feinstein or Bloomberg putting this evil-looking, but silly gun on display at a news conference.

So, the only difference between this and the regular Chainsaw model is a lame 3 letter decal??? That is just a stupid marketing ploy. Do they really think this will be a collector's item?

These are the kind of producats that give gun owners a bad rep. 'They believe in zombies!'

Call me old school. That is one silly looking weapon. I will stick with my stocked model 500 so I can shoulder it when need be. Really, Mossberg, that is just embarrassing.

I must not have enough sense of humor. I don't mind zombie themed toys but actual firearms... I think it's a bad idea. For starters think of defending yourself in a legitimate home defense case. Lawyers go after things like scary sounding ammo already. Imagine how they will paint you if you use that gun against an actual bad guy. I avoid anything with zombie marketing. Get a machete. They are the best anti-zombie weapons money can buy. Not speaking from experience mind you...
