A Mississippi man refused to be a victim to armed robbers. Two Mobile, Ala., residents had crossed state lines and entered the home, demanding that the residents hand over their car keys and a cell phone. After one intruder pulled out his gun and hit one resident in the head, the other would-be victim grabbed a rifle and fired two shots. The suspects fled. Police used tracking dogs to catch one; the county deputies nabbed the other one later. (The Mississippi Press, Pascagoula, MS, 5/27/15)

A BB gun was enough to save a Brockton, Mass., woman’s life when she was accosted by a knife-wielding man. The woman, 44, believing she had heard gunshots nearby earlier in the night, took a BB gun with her when she went outside to smoke a cigarette on her porch. A man in a black hooded sweatshirt was able to sneak up on her from behind, put a knife to her throat and ask her if she “wanted to play.” The victim responded by producing her BB gun, pointing it at her assailant and asking him the same question. Apparently he wasn’t interested in this particular game, as the criminal immediately fled the scene on foot. The homeowner suffered some marks to her neck, but did not require medical attention. (The Enterprise, Brockton, MA, 9/24/15)

Five youths armed with a sawed-off shotgun seized $1,100 from a Houston, Texas, motorcycle shop and tied up proprietor John E. Jones and his employees. As they were about to make a getaway on bikes stolen from the store, Jones worked his way loose and fired several shotgun blasts at the fleeing hoodlums. One youth, wounded slightly, was arrested on the spot, and two of his accomplices were apprehended the next day. (The Houston Post, Houston, TX)
