Armed Citizen® Today

A burglar was shot and killed after attempting to rob a liquor store in the early hours of Wednesday, March 8, 2023.

The owner of the shop in Coldspring, Texas, who had only purchased the business nine months prior to the incident, was asleep in a back room when he awoke at 5:45 a.m. to the sound of a person inside the closed store. When the owner exited the back room, armed with a 9 mm Luger handgun, he saw the alleged burglar and told police that the man attempted to move toward him, prompting him to fire.

He shot once, hitting the alleged thief and incapacitating him. Police and EMS were called to the scene, and they transported the wounded suspect to a local hospital, where he died. (ABC 13; Coldspring, Texas; 3/8/23)

From the Armed Citizen® Archives – May 1970

Twelve-year-old Gail Burdine, alone in her parents’ home near Eufala, Okla., watched while a man knocked on the doors, then broke through a glass patio door. She meanwhile loaded and cocked a .410-bore shotgun. When the intruder stepped through the smashed door, she pointed the gun at him and said, “That’s far enough.” The man turned and ran. She reported his auto tag number and description to police, who arrested a suspect. (Phoenix, Muskogee, Okla.)
