More Ammo?

Because of the lack of ammunition supplies over the past year or so, I always make slip past the ammo shelf whenever I’m in a big-box store, in addition to making special trips to sporting goods stores, to see if supplies have increased. Sure, I’m trying to restock my stores, but I’m also just trying to see if the panic buying is starting to subside.

Last weekend, while shopping for some household items, I made my usual side trip to the locked Plexiglas case that in recent months has caused indigestion due to the open space that should be holding well-designed boxes symbolizing one of the freedoms of this county. I wasn’t expecting much, but to my surprise there was ammunition present.  The majority of the fully loaded cartridges were of the hunting variety, with highly colored images of ducks, doves and deer, but I also saw some plain, brown-boxed Federal .223 Rem.

There were also some .45 Colt, .38 Spl. and .380 ACP rounds present, though sadly the main calibers I use—.45 ACP and 9 mm—were still missing. Also absent were the ever hard to find .22 rounds. Seeing this, however, has made me wonder if the scare is on the downward slide, and that ammunition will be available soon. I certainly hope so, but will remain skeptical until I see the removal of that three box limit sign. Are you noticing more ammunition on the shelves, or did I just get lucky?

A local sporting goods store here in Alabama has been getting the 300 round .22s in sporadically. Asking $24. Thought that was bad until I saw a 550 brick at a gun show for $60. Used to buy those for $20. These guys are buying them up to resell. Luckily, I started stocking up in 2008 for obvious reasons. Have a good supply. Only looking to replace what I shoot now.

There are lines at Wal-Mart, starting around 6:00, every morning, to snap up whatever hits the shelves. 9mm seems to be fairly available, though limits still apply. .22 caliber shipments are still minute, and disappear as soon as they hit the shelves. Yeah, in Denver, it's near as satisfying to OBTAIN ammo as it is to actually FIRE it!!

I have recently toured the western states, each time I stopped in a big box store the answer was the same, ' its been months since we have seen any 22's' I looked in Idaho, Utah, Nevada, (Gun shop had some wanted $80 a brick) Montana, Wyoming and California, In many cases you could occasionally find 9MM, 40 ACP and 45 ACP, still no 22's. When available the cost was not like it once was

Haven't seen it this bad since before 1999! when the Big Box Stores were to 'Afraid' to sell it behind the counter, Pistol ammo not sold or carried, rifle and shotgun ammo only in a few select domestic calibers only! this sucks!

Not any luck in the 'Big Box Stores' in WV. Although what has been returning to the shelves have been shotgun and some centerfire rifle cartriges, most pistol calibers and .22 long rimfire are not to be found, also notably missing are the 'Cheaper steel case' ammo, so i'm guessing the imported russian and european made ammo isn't getting to the shelves either! double hurt!

walmart here in north Charlotte has been getting pretty much everything except 22's. I've noticed the increase in supply for about a month now. Academy sports still is full of everything except 22's. They even have 22 magnum, but still limit you to 2 boxes.

Woe is me! Big box stores never have my ammo.....357sig, or .41 magnum. As far as for my 1911, .45's.... are not hard to find, nor are .38 specials. The gun stores are the place to buy.

I've seen lots of 9mm, 45ACP, 380, and .38 Special. I've even seen .22lr in mass quantities. Although its only the CCI 100 rnd boxes and they are still like $10. No Remington 550 packs yet.

Spotty. Local GS/range had 9mm, but no .380 today. Reverse last time.

My local store had two 100-round boxes of .45 ACP and nothing else. I told my wife I wanted to buy one box and she said no. She made me buy both of them. She said she didn't want to hear me berating myself the rest of the day about how I should have bought them both when I had the chance.

To me it seems you have to beat the flea market sellers to the big box stores. On any given saturday my sons an I go through several hundred rounds of 9 , 40, 45,22 . geat family fun an the winner gets bragging rights till the next weekend.

WalMart had a pretty good selection of handgun ammo today but no .22s. At last week's gun show primers were to be found for the first time and Cabela's is knee-deep in primers. But, alas, handgun bullets and powder was all but missing.
