Kimber Solo Carry

In an age where pocket pistols are becoming predominantly polymer, Kimber wanted to give shooters an all-metal option that brought power and a little style to the concealed carry gun. They did just that with the Kimber Solo series.

The Kimber Solo Carry is small, lightweight and easy to carry—but it's also chambered in 9mm, giving its handler more stopping power than most guns in its weight class.

To put the icing on the cake, Kimber adapted a handful of features from the beloved 1911 pistol to suit the Solo. Both the ambidextrous thumb safety and magazine are carried over. It also comes equipped with a single action striker-fired trigger.

With a lot of the perks of a larger gun worked into a very concealable, all-metal frame, there's little to dislike about the Solo—and that's why it's the AmericanRifleman.org Gun of the Week.

I bought a kimber Solo after purchasing a Sig 938. The solo had repeated FTF/FTE using premium 124 gr hollow points. In 75 rounds, 5 worked correctly....5. The grip screw fell out twice too. The Solo is the worst gun I've ever shot....Period. When it comes back from Kimber, it's gone. Sure glad I have the 938 Sig.....

After a year waiting I finally got my Kimber Solo, it is one of the best looking guns I have ever owned. The first time at the range I could not get through 2 magazines without a FTE, FTF and stovepipes plus a grip screw fell our and was lost. I called Kimber CS and they acted like it was a very remote issue so I send it back, still waiting. I wish I had bought a Sig 938 instead.

I've had my Solo for about six months now, I have fired several types of ammo, including 115 gr which is not on Kimber's recommended list. No problems for me, but my son-in-law who has bigger hands did have a few misfeeds with the 115. Moved up to 124 and no misfeeds for him, still none for me. I'm impressed with the accuracy, especially considering the size. I would buy it again!

I love the look of the Solo, only because it reminds me of the Colt 1903. I wish they would make one a bit bigger to closer match the 1903 specs. I want a gun of this design type chambered in 9mm with at least a 8 or 10 round capacity that I can put all three fingers on with a barrel length of at least 4 inches. I bet if they stayed within those parameters the gun would perform flawlessly and they would have all the Colt 1903 fans knocking down the door for one.

I owned one for about a week. I have never seen such a poor implementation. Ammo sensitive, get real. It jams on anything! Got rid of it. Buy the Sig p938, way better and accurate.

And why not a G26? perfect/supreme replacement for less pistols

Yes Pete....the Kimber Solo IS ammo sensitive...and if you had done your homework you would have found that out...it was DESIGNED for certain self-defense ammo as it is a self-defense firearm!!! I would like to own one but will still carry my Kimber Ultra CDP II in 45ACP!

Q. When is a handgun too small? A. When it is so small that it doesn't work. When I read about the Solo, I ws going to rush out to buy it to replace my Ruger LCP -- same size, but 9mm instead of .380 ACP. Glad now that there were none in stock. My Ruger is very reliable, and this Solo is reportedly not. I have fired several different types of .380 through the Ruger, FMJ ball, Hydra-shok, some of the "premium defense" type loads, and never had any problem with ammo sensitivity. I understand the Solo is very ammo sensitive, even according to the manual. I realize now that the slight increase in power from .380 to 9mm is not worth the money or the reliability issues. Kimber had what seemed like a great idea...but instead they have shown that there is such a thing as a handgun that is too small.

The Solo is my daily carry weapon. I have 4 Kimbers and have t had anything come close to the quality and accuracy for the price. I haven't been gentile with my Solo and that being said I do have some issues with it. First I had striker problems out of the box. Second is the Kimpro black finish seems to scratch easily. And finally both rear sight dots have fallen out. I'm sure he sights are out sourced but this is wrong. Customer service has been good but they won't do anything about the finish and I don't want to send it off for a rear sight. I love Kimbers and would buy others but Kimber should have done a little better on the Solo

Kimber has no quality control and markets expensive gun-of-the-month. You pay thru the nose to send in a gun for service--and you get it back with no improvement.

Why does this Kimber Solo costs about $300.00 more than a similar Ruger LC9 or a S&W Shield? Not to mention can't find a dealer who stocks it...

Very nice, looking for something a little smaller than my Sig 229 Equinox. Hope I can buy it in Kalifornia.

I love my Kimbers, my current carry is the Ultra Raptor in a 45 ACP! No question its one of my favorites! 45 ACP it's silly to shoot twice! I'm sure the Solo is just as nice but in the 9 mm version!
