Kahr Makes a Move

After Governor Andrew Cuomo railroaded the Draconian “Secure Ammunition and Firearms Enforcement Act of 2013” through both houses of New York legislature in Albany—in which the oppressive bill wasn’t even allowed the normal legislative comment and inspection periodmany wondered when Kahr Arms would make a move. We received our answer today. Kahr Arms, which also includes Auto-Ordnance and Magnum Research, will be “expanding its corporate offices and engineering department into Pike County, Pa., which is about an hour-and-a-half west of its current location in Pearl River, N.Y. Kahr is buying 620 acres from the Pike County Industrial Park Development Group/Business Development Corporation. The site is near Scranton, and construction is said to start as early as this year. Both Kahr’s manufacturing plantsone in Worchester, Mass., and the other in Pillager, Minn.—are working at full capacity and are not included in the move, although Kahr plans to eventually expand manufacturing to the Pennsylvania site.

 The company’s release is telling.

“We are grateful for the warm welcome and the business opportunity extended by the Pike County Industrial Park Development Group/Business Development Corporation to expand our company and relocate its headquarters office,” stated VP of Sales and Marketing, Frank Harris. “The Pennsylvania group has demonstrated tremendous support of our operations and Kahr looks to move forward with the project without delay. It’s good for our business and also for other businesses in the area as we build a long-term mutually beneficial relationship with the community. We anticipate generating significant numbers of revenue and jobs for the local Northeastern Pennsylvania economy with the construction of facilities, expansion of manufacturing, and need for local vendors.”

In case you didn’t know, you can actually put 10 rounds in a 10-round capacity magazine in Pennsylvania without facing imprisonment by Cuomo’s goons. I’m sure that didn’t occur to executives at Kahr. Nah, I’m sure it didn’t factor into their decision at all.

I would liked to have seen an expansion out west - say Idaho or Arizona - however I understand the want and need to keep the headquarters close to the existing facilities. Regardless, I am encouraged by yet another move out of New York.

Great move on leaving NY behind, but why PA, which has voted Dem in almost all recent presidential elections and which is home to Pat Toomey, of the Manchin/Schumer/Toomey anti-gun bill? Why not a true conservative state which is not likely to pass laws just as bad as New York's in a few years, as PA probably will?

First Rush Limbaugh left New York on principle, and the political emperors said in effect that they didn’t need all the taxes he was paying, and good riddance. Now Kahr Arms is leaving New York on principle, and I expect similar evil, nasty, bitter remarks from the governor and others. But Atlas is shrugging. And very soon New York will have taxed or regulated their productive citizens into moving away, and they will want money from the rest of the states to keep their unaffordable, holier-than-thou lifestyles going. Will our politicians have the courage to tell New York to go bankrupt, and good riddance?
