Lee Heng, 63, was asleep when two suspects allegedly scaled the wall and entered Heng's second-story apartment through the bathroom window. Heng woke to the sound of his 14-year-old son screaming. Realizing his son was in danger, Heng jumped out of bed and grabbed his gun. The armed intruders confronted Heng and a struggle ensued. Heng fired several shots which caused the men to flee. One suspect suffered fatal gunshot wounds and the second suspect was reportedly still at large. It's believed that the suspects were attempting to rob the jewelry store Heng runs on the first floor of his home. (TheBlaze.com, Philadelphia, PA, 4/1/13)

Two teens have been arrested in connection to an alleged break-in at an Oasis Gas Station in Shingleton. Police say the two suspects broke in to the gas station wearing ski masks and proceeded to the cash register. The two suspects were unaware that the gas station owner and Iraq war veteran Shawn Schank was still in the building. Police say that Schank ran towards the suspects and kicked one of them to the ground. He then retrieved his AR-15 from his office and ordered them to leave the business. According to police, one of the suspects peeled his mask off and pleaded that Schank not shoot him. They then fled on foot as Schank called 911. Police say that Schank recognized the face of the suspect that removed his mask, which led to the arrest of the two individuals. (Uppermichiganssource.com, Shingleton, MI, 4/29/13)

From The Armed Citizen Archives
October 1970: Mrs. Wesley Heinrich of Redding, Calif., returned home to find two men burglarizing her house. Seeing the culprits run into the brush surrounding her home, Mrs. Heinrich ducked inside the house and came out with a .22 rifle. She flushed the pair and held them until police arrived. Think it was Ben Franklin who said ( if you give up even a few freedoms for security, than you deserve neither and will loose both. In my opinion I don't think we need to be changing what our founding fathers wrote. It's to protect us as Americans. It reminds us that we the people are in charge. We put you in office. ( well I didn't ) but the people did. Lol If you try to take my guns, ( But I'm sure it's our guns cause I'm not alone) you going get one hell of a fight!!!

Yeah government already owns us. And we let them take from us even more at cost of temporary security... The Founding Fathers roll in their graves...

It is the armed citizen that regulates a militia. Just look at countries with disarmed citizenry that are left in tyranny under leaders with a military force that is unregulated by a free state ie armed citizenry. Think about it.

Both Mark Holland and Dick Franke are correct. You are "talking past" each other. And we're talking phrases here. The phrase "well regulated militia" does not have the same meaning today as it was understood when the Founding Fathers were debating the Bill of Rights. Almost anyone you ask today would say that "well regulated" means the state may regulate who may have firearms. They do not understand that's not what the phrase meant in 1790. As Mr. Franke so correctly notes, "well regulated" means well drilled. I prefer well trained, as most folks today would not understand the phrase "well drilled". Welcome to the results of today's "education". We have to be very clear about how we use language to reach those who do not have critical thinking skills. It's precisely why the media can get away with the most outrageous claims (pick almost any subject: guns, climate, the IRS, etc.) and people will believe it. Goebbels would have been delighted to have a propaganda arm as compliant as our "mainstream" media are.

Those opposing Divk Frank's comments are not reading them carefully. His point is that the 2nd amendments meaning by the founders is that the amendment means more practiced/skilled in current terms than managed or controlled like many anti-2nd amendment people want to interpret. This bolsters the individual right in the amendment, not diminishes it. You are all on the same side but are just not realizing it (pro citizens own and carry guns).

To Mr. Dick Franke "When exactly did the definitions of common words in the English language change?" I feel that it is "grasping at straws" fools like yourself that need to just get on with your lives if this is the best argument you have at your disposal. Really now, do you think your point holds any merit at all? You are making yourself look silly here.

I have a sign on my garage that says If you can read this you are in range. Sheriff told me this was a good sign It doesn't state that I have any weapons.

To DICK Franke. The words mean every bit as much as they did then. They were written plainly on purpose. THE RIGHT TO KEEP AND BEAR ARMS and SHALL NOT BE INFRINGED mean just that!

When the press is willing to go back to a hand operated printing press,- I would be willing to consider going back to a btk powder gun.

Regarding Marks comment I would like to add a key point that definitions of words today are not the same as what they were in the 1775 era. Well regulated meant well drilled not controlled or managed.

The 2nd amendment should be made into a flag and flown on every flag pole.

A state can't be free if its people have to live in fear of crime. This also is an indication that people have a right to have guns. The police nor the national guard can always be there on time to save a life. We should be our own first responders.

Title 10 Section 311 of the US Code defines Militia as being both the Regulated Militia of the States. And the Unregulated militia of the Nation (everyone over the age of 17) who are subject to the Draft. The 2nd Amendment is a Dual purpose Amendment. "A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free state" applies to the Regulated militia's of the states "The right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed" applies to the Unregulated militia of the nation who are subject to the Draft (Calling forth the Militia). If the 2nd Amendment applied only to the States regulated militia, the second half of the 2nd amendment would not be needed because the first half already establishes the states right to an armed and regulated militia. You would only need the second half of the 2nd amendment in regards to the unregulated militia of the nation who are subject to the Draft. The 2nd Amendment is clearly a Dual purpose Amendment establishing the States Right to have a regulated Militia and the unregulated militia who are subject to the draft the right to keep and bear arms which will not be infringed. The 2nd Amendment has been infringed upon nearly to the breaking point. It needs to stop now.
