A major responsibility that comes with owning a handgun is ensuring that it is safely and securely stored when not in use. The MicroVault XL from GunVault is great for pistol storage at home or while travelling.
The safe’s 12x10"x3½-inch dimensions offer capacity for multiple handguns—the space is also sufficient for storing a small computer or important documents—and because it weighs only 7 pounds, 8 ounces, empty, the MicroVault XL is easy to move from home to car, and can be placed in a suitcase for travel.
Security is provided by the 18-gauge steel housing, tamper-resistant door and steel security cable. Access is by way of the provided master key or the No-Eyes keypad—a four-button panel in the shape of a hand that allows the input of a user-determined entry code. Powered by one 9V battery, the keypad uses an external LED and audio cues—which can be toggled off for discreet entry—to provide feedback and low-battery warnings.
The interior has a protective foam lining and an elastic band with pockets which are useful for holding extra magazines, flashlights, knives, etc. It should be noted that the MicroVault XL is not intended for the same use as a 1,000-pound gun safe. Rather, it is a compact security solution well suited for such jobs as locking up a bedside defensive arm when unattended, or ensuring legal compliance for armed citizens on the move. Price: $180.
