Springfield Armory offers one of the most extensive line-ups of M1911-type handguns, from its basic mil-spec models to the 2011-framed Prodigy to full-custom handguns. Among these is the uniquely styled Emissary, an all-steel, single-stack M1911 that Springfield says bridges “the gap between duty and custom handguns.” New for 2024, Springfield is offering the Emissary in all-black variants.

The new all-black models follow the features Springfield introduced with its two-tone Emissary M1911s in 2020. Major components are forged, with a carbon-steel slide and stainless-steel frame. Whereas the two-toned Emissary has a stainless-steel frame, the all-black models use carbon steel. Their stainless-steel, match-grade bull barrels are fitted to the slide with a bushingless system and use a one-piece, full-length guide rod. The ignition system is a skeletonized hammer and a flat-faced trigger. Front and rear sights are fitted in dovetails, with a front post with a tritium insert and a rear with Springfield’s “Tactical Rack U-Notch.”

Several other features add to the Emissary’s unique styling. The trigger guard is square, offering more space for a gloved finger. Milling on the top of the slide is Springfield’s “Tri-Top” pattern, with its distinctive flats and forward grasping grooves. Between the sights, 40 l.p.i. serrations reduce glare along the sighting surface. The grip area of the frame uses a coarse “grenade” pattern of checkering, along with VZ Grips thin-line G10 panels. For its all-black Emissary variants, Springfield is finishing the slide and frame with a black Cerakote, and the barrel is given a black nitride finish.

Springfield is offering four variants of the all-black Emissary. These included both Government-size (5” barrel) and Commander-size (4.25”) models in both .45 ACP and 9 mm Luger. In a change from earlier Emissary offerings, models with a 4.25” barrel will now have a full-length dustcover with a Picatinny accessory rail machined in. Each model of the Springfield Armory Emissary All-Black have an MSRP of $1,378. For more information, visit springfield-armory.com.
