While Stag Arms is well-known for its innovative Modern Sporting Rifles, the company has recently stepped into the precision bolt-action hunting rifle world with its new-for-2023 Pursuit Bolt Action. Not your average M700-type chassis rifle, the Pursuit bolt-action seeks to bring AR modularity to the turn-bolt world and adds to the company’s line-up of AR-15/AR-10 hunting-focused Pursuit rifles released earlier this year.

The external dimensions of the 416 stainless action follow a Remington Model 700 footprint with a pinned recoil lug. Stag adapts this design to its own specifications, with a three-lug bolt that has a 60-degree throw. The bolt’s unique tool-less quick-disassembly design uses an interchangeable bolt head and bolt handle. The trigger assembly is a single-stage TriggerTech Primary unit that is user adjustable between 1.5 and 4 lbs. A 20-m.o.a. biased optics rail is mounted atop the receiver. Rifles chambered in .308 Win. and 6.5 mm Creedmoor come equipped with a polymer Magpul AICS-pattern magazine, while 6.5 PRC models use a metal Accurate-Mag detachable box. Magazines are removed via an ambidextrous “paddle” built into the front of the triggerguard.

Compatible with pre-fit barrels that use the Zematt Origin or Savage small shank pattern, the Pursuit comes equipped with a Ballistic Advantage 416-R stainless-steel, spiral-fluted barrel with a Cerakote finish and its muzzle threaded 5/8x24 TPI. The rifle is offered in three chamberings matched to a specific barrel length: .308 Win./18”, 6.5 mm Creedmoor/20” and 6.5 PRC/22”. The rifles can be had with a black, olive drab or tan finish. In .308 Win. configuration, the rifle weighs 8 lbs. 9 ozs.

Right and left sides of the Stag Arms Pursuit bolt-action rifle. The Pursuit Bolt Action is available in three finish options (tan and OD green shown) and three chamberings paired with a specific length barrel.

The Pursuit is placed in a three-piece chassis system, with the buttstock and fore-end made of polymer, joined by a billet 7075 aluminum alloy center section into which the action mounts. The buttstock has a height-adjustable comb and the length-of-pull is adjustable with a spacer system, and the entire assembly is removable for storage or transportation via a single, captured AR-10-style takedown pin. The fore-end has a series of M-Lok slots in the 6-o’clock position, along with a Picatinny rail spigot that protrudes from the front. Quick-detachable swivel receptacles are present on both the fore-end and buttstock.

Each rifle comes equipped with a removable bag rider for the stock, length-of-pull spacers, an M-Lok-to-ARCA-rail adapter, a Stag Arms-branded equipment bag by Savior Equipment, a sub-m.o.a. accuracy guarantee, and Stag’s lifetime warranty.

The Stag Arms Pursuit Bolt Action has a MSRP of $1,900. For more information, visit stagarms.com.
