“Tag: single-shot”

Can you help identify the antique .22-cal. single-shot pistol shown in the enclosed photo? The barrel length is 8", and overall length is 13".

Q: I have an old gun that I cannot identify. It’s a .22-cal., single-shot, target-style pistol. I believe the barrel is a Parkerfield, but the stamping is spelled “PARKERIFLED.”

My favorite firearm has been in my family for four generations. It’s a Winchester Model 60A single-shot, bolt-action, .22-cal. rimfire chambered for the Short, Long and Long Rifle cartridges.

Winchester was one of the first manufacturers to jump into the low-cost bolt-action .22 market with its John Browning-designed Model 1900, a design that would carry on for subsequent generations of Winchester single-shot .22 rifles, including one of the most prolific, the Model 67.

Based off of the .222 Remington Magnum cartridge and stuffed with a .20-cal. Hornady bullet, the Ruger .204 cartridge supplies 4,200 f.p.s. with mild recoil and surprisingly good barrel life.

The CVA Scout breech-loading rifle has proved its popularity again, being the fourth-most sold single-shot rifle of 2020.  

Though not made in large numbers—and eventually killed off by the Great Depression—A.H. Fox Single Barrel Trap guns were some of the finest American trap guns ever built.
