On July 2 or 3, 1863, Pvt. John Fallin of the 23rd Virginia Infantry lost or discarded his rifle during the fighting on Culp’s Hill, near the sleepy little town of Gettysburg, Pa. More than 150 years later, his Enfield rifle-musket, a veteran of the battle, plays a key role in remembering one of the most important battles in American history.

The Battle of Gettysburg was fought July 1-3, 1863. America Remembers marks the anniversary with this tribute rifle to ensure future generations never forget our nation’s history.

In July 1863, the Army of the Potomac and the Army of Northern Virginia fought a bloody three-day battle near the small seminary town of Gettysburg, Pa. During the battle—the high-water mark of the Confederacy—everything from ancient smoothbores to state-of-the-art repeaters was pressed into service.
