FN America has unveiled the latest commercial addition to its SCAR lineup.

FN America is a consolidation of two existing entities—FN Manufacturing and FNH USA—with both being established for two different reasons.

Fabrique Nationale’s SCAR line of semi-automatic carbines are fine guns in their own right, but the Belgian company’s decision to use a proprietary buttstock design limits the amount of customization that can be made to the firearms.

While filming an episode of American Rifleman TV at FN USA, Mark Keefe was able to get up close and personal with the first SCAR ever produced. The episode will air in the upcoming season, which begins next month.

Last week, I, along with a few other editors from NRA Publications, had the opportunity to meet with representatives from FNH USA at the Peacemaker National Training Center in Gerrardstown, W.Va., to get some hands-on time with a few of the company’s newer firearms, along with a couple of its more popular platforms—the SCAR and the Five-seveN.

The SCAR family of rifles has served U.S. Special Operations Command units in the field for some time, and the Special Operations Combat Assault Rifle Heavy finally became available to consumers with the FN SCAR 17S.
