Handloads: .270 Winchester

Always searching for a step up in performance, I couldn’t help but notice that the Alliant Powder Reloader’s Guide (alliantpowder.com) lists some impressive velocities for the .270 Win. firing 150-gr. bullets handloaded using Reloder 26—Nosler Partitions, Sierra GameKings and Speer BTSP 150-gr. bullets managing slightly more than 3000 f.p.s.

Handloads: .44 Magnum

A lightweight .44 Magnum revolver is handy and easy to carry. Recoil is brutal, though, when shooting full-power loads in sub-2-lb. guns such as the Smith & Wesson 329PD.

Handloads: 12 Gauge

A virtual “pumpkin,” this heavy-hitting 12-ga. load is composed of a 2" Cheddite hull with a Cheddite 209 primer and 26 grs. of Hi-Skor 800-X propellant.

Latest Loads: .270 Wby. Mag.

Owing to Weatherby’s characteristic extra-long leades, when chambered in one of its namesake cartridges, the company’s rifles—especially in cases of advanced throat erosion—can be persnickety with ammunition at times.

Latest Loads: .308 Win.

The adage “jack of all trades” could be adapted to “jack of all (non-dangerous) hunts” with this utilitarian, .308 Win. big-game load. Containing Barnes Bullets’ 165-gr. Triple-Shock X Bullet (TSX)

Latest Loads: 10 mm Auto

There are circumstances that simply call for downrange performance above what it can deliver, such as big-game hunting and defense against large predators.

Latest Loads: .17 Hornet

When habitually pitting your .17 Hornet against coyotes, or pressing it into service for prairie dogs in the windy West, you should consider Hornady’s heavier, 0.172"-diameter, 25-gr. V-Max bullet.

Latest Loads: 9 mm Luger

Becoming an accomplished, defensive-minded pistol shooter requires significant trigger time.

Latest Loads: .30-’06 Sprg.

Sometimes you just need a really big stick, and for the .30-’06 Sprg., this is it.

Latest Loads: 7 mm Rem. Mag.

The prospect of long-range shooting opportunities motivates hunters to purchase rifles chambered in 7 mm Rem. Mag.
