Fabrique Nationale’s SCAR line of semi-automatic carbines are fine guns in their own right, but the Belgian company’s decision to use a proprietary buttstock design limits the amount of customization that can be made to the firearms.
The SCAR family of rifles has served U.S. Special Operations Command units in the field for some time, and the Special Operations Combat Assault Rifle Heavy finally became available to consumers with the FN SCAR 17S.
FN America’s SCAR lineup of rifles received an upgrade in 2021 with the addition of bilateral, non-reciprocating charging handles now available on the 20S precision rifle, as well as the 17S and 16S.
Building off the excitement caused by the development of the SCAR-SC back in 2018, FN has now released a dedicated semi-automatic pistol version of the platform with the SCAR 15P.
Last week, I, along with a few other editors from NRA Publications, had the opportunity to meet with representatives from FNH USA at the Peacemaker National Training Center in Gerrardstown, W.Va., to get some hands-on time with a few of the company’s newer firearms, along with a couple of its more popular platforms—the SCAR and the Five-seveN.
