NRA Life member Sidney C. Phillips, Jr., joined the U.S. Marine Corps on December 8, 1941, and he saw fierce combat action in the Pacifi c, including Guadalcanal, Cape Gloucester and Pavuvu. He has shared his experiences on the PBS documentary “The War” and has been featured in HBO’s “The Pacific.” Now retired, Dr. Phillips is a humble hero and an example to us all.

Donald R. Burgett was a 19-year-old paratrooper who dropped into Normandy in the early morning of June 6, 1944, with an M1 Garand and a U.S. M1911 pistol.
