Fear & Loading: Bergara Experience

Gun enthusiasts in North Carolina have an opportunity to take a Bergara Rifle for a free test drive this weekend. The Bergara Experience includes a chance to shoot the company’s B14 and Premier series of rifles on the long-range courses at Woody's Hunting and Rifle Club in New Hill, N.C. (roughly 30 minutes south of the Raleigh area), on Saturday, Aug. 5. The no-charge event is open to the public and runs 8 a.m. until noon.

The next Bergara Experience takes place at White Feather Precision Shooting in Ardmore, Tenn., on Aug. 19. Gates open at 10 a.m. and check-in closes at 11:30 a.m. Lunch will be served, and a product overview conducted before shooting begins at 1 p.m. A happy hour follows once the range goes cold—4 p.m. This event is also free, although shooters need to reserve their spot by e-mailing contact@bpiguns.com or on Bergara's Facebook page.

Barbour Creek Shooting Academy, 200 Self Road in Eufaula, Ala., will host the company’s final event this month, Saturday, Aug. 26. There is no cost, it’s open to the public, runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and stretches distances out to 1,580 yards.

The “test drive” trend is quickly gaining traction in the industry, offering enthusiasts an unusual chance to get behind the trigger and, ultimately, make a more informed purchase. Even if you’re not looking to buy right now, the experts assembled are a wealth of knowledge and can provide the kind of tips that’ll aid your precision shooting—whether punching paper, ringing steel or connecting opening day.

The Savage Trigger Tour is also in full swing, and a great opportunity to give a new Savage Arms rifle a try. On Aug. 5 Richland County Coon Hunters Club in Shiloh, Ohio, will be hosting one of the events. On Aug. 11 and 18 a pair will be held at Game Fair, in Ramsey, Minn. North Star Sportsmans Club in Walker, Minn., is hosting another on the 18th.
