Two Palmer, Alaska, burglary suspects who shot one resident of the home they were invading got what was coming to them when the apartment dweller, despite suffering from multiple gunshot wounds, fired back and injured both of the trespassers. Medics treated the 26-year-old resident and he was initially listed in serious condition after being taken to a hospital. Meanwhile, two men suffering from gunshot wounds sought medical help at a regional emergency room. They were admitted and listed in critical condition, and police are investigating whether they are linked to the burglary. (Alaska Dispatch News, Anchorage, AK, 12/3/14)

A North Lauderdale, Fla., man, living in a neighborhood that had been hit hard by crime in recent weeks, shot and killed an intruder on his property, early Friday morning. The homeowner heard a noise in the middle of the night, armed himself and went to investigate. He encountered a stranger in his backyard attempting to break into his home, and the resident shot him. The attempted burglar was transported to an area hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries. (wsvn.com, Miami, FL, 2/27/15)

Returning to her apartment from shopping, Ann Pinkerton of Trenton, N.J., found a man in her home helping himself to her food. Her screams were heard by Mario D’Antonio and his son John, who rushed to her rescue and cornered the intruder with shotguns. The man was also accused of breaking into two other residences in the neighborhood. (Trenton N.J., Times, Trenton, NJ)
