Winchester Launching New Deer Season XP Rifle Load in 2015

SHOT Show remains months away—and the National Association of Sporting Goods Wholesalers show still weeks out—but that hasn't stopped Winchester from showing off what's sure to be one of its hottest new wares in 2015: Deer Season XP.

Tailored exclusively with deer hunters in mind, the new centerfire rifle brand will get the usual red carpet rollout next January, and is expected to be on store shelves by April 2015. That said, we do have some details we can offer you.

The brand's leading characteristic is the inclusion of the new Extreme Point Winchester bullet. The over-sized polymer tip is designed to produce rapid expansion and provide massive impact trauma—hence the brand's slogan, "Bigger Tip, Bigger Impact."

Deer Season XP will be available in eight initial offerings: .243 Win., .270 Win., .270 WSM, 7 mm Rem. Mag., .308 Win., .30-06 Sprg., .300 Win. Mag. and .300 WSM. The .243 Win. round will have a 95-grain bullet; .270 Win. and .270 WSM will be at 130 grains; 7mm Rem. Mag. will be at 140 grains and the .30-caliber cartridges will check in with 150-grain bullets.

The name, meanwhile, continues Winchester's recent tradition of branding its products with the very uses they're designed for—think Long Beard XR, Razorback XT and W Train & Defend.
