The action sport of 3-gun competition is gaining traction across U.S. college campuses, and Leupold & Stevens, Inc., has announced its sponsorship of the newly created University of Florida 3-gun shooting team.

The Gators’ new 3-gun team was born when four members of the existing UF pistol team branched out to compete in local multigun and club matches around the Southeastern United States. Their goal is to generate excitement among young shooters and eventually help form a competitive collegiate series for 3-gun shooters.

“Leupold is extremely excited to get behind the new University of Florida 3-gun squad,” said Bruce Pettet, president and chief executive officer of Leupold & Stevens, Inc. “These young people and Leupold share a vision. We want to foster an environment where action shooting competitions continue to gain acceptance and a strong following. We look forward to helping this team meet their goals.”

Since its formation, UF 3-gun competitors placed first, second and third at the 2014 Pro-Am shooting championship as well as fifth and sixth in their class at the 2014 USPSA Area 6 MultiGun Championships. The team plans to schedule more tournament stops and matches against other schools in Kentucky, Texas, North Carolina, South Carolina and Florida in 2015.

Leupold is currently the official optics sponsor of the 3-Gun Nation Tour and its contributes half of the sport’s $50,000 grand prize, and looks forward to expanding sponsorship of collegiate shooting and other amateur gun competitions across the United States.
