I don't doubt the new
21st century version of
the venerable Winchester
Model 70 is superior to
the old pre-64 version. Too bad the new version
isn't chambered in 7mm
Mauser (7x57)! Origninally
developed in 1892 this was
formerly the military caliber of Spain, Mexico,
Central America, and half
of South American governments. Perhaps no
finer dual purpose deer/
elk caliber exists. The
average American hunter
tends to be overgunned!
Bullet placement, not size, makes the difference. The North
American big hunter couldn't perhaps ask for
anything better than a modern bolt action sporter rifle chambered in 7mm Mauser (7x57) and
topped with a Weaver K-4,
Leopold 4x compact scope.
This combination will put
venison (deer) and elk meat in the family freezer if the shooter does their part.
