I bought this rifle really liking the weight and feel of it. The 1886 design is tough as they come and Chiappa improved upon it. However, the feed issues were horrific. It would not feed properly one out of every four cycles. Chewed the crud out of the brass leaving brass shavings in the breech. Thus, I have also sent my rifle to Corlane Sporting Goods for a work over in the feed department. I kind of hoped to avoid any issues with the price tag. I'm a little dissapointed.

I bought a Chiappa Kodiak and the rifle had feed isues.Bartons in Grande Prairie Alberta the seller had me come into their store and they swaped the rifle out .Chiappa has sent me 3 emails making sure I am happy with their rifle and makeing sure that I was taken care of. I do guide for bear and this rifle is very close to being the perfect Back Up thick cover Dangerous Game rifle I only wish the loop was a bit larger. The rifle is fast and accuate I can put 5 405gr rounds down range in less than 2 seconds and offhand at 50 yards in a nice 1.5 inch group. I dont know of any north American game that can take that pounding and keep comeing. It will be put to the test in April on bear and I feel 100% sure of the rifle I have allready fired over 100 rounds. I will be takeing the rifle to Corlans in Dawson Creek B.C and haveing their very fine gunsmiths go over the rifle . I want the trigger at 4 pounds and I want to see if we can enlarge the loop a bit I will stay with the open Skinner Sights as I find them very fast to come up on and I dont want to efect the ballance of the rifle by adding more weight forward I will allso wand blind screws in the rail holes on the barrel this rifle sells for over twice the price of the Marlin guide gun and I think it is worth every penny of the $1,399.oo I paid for it thank you Chiappa for a great rifle and thank you staff of the Grande Prairie Bartons Big Country for the fantastic service

I have one, the accuracy is incredible, 1" groups at 100yds! The Skinner sight is great, and it replaces either scope base, I switch back and forth with little change in zero.

Why not put a full length mag tube on it to get another round or so capacity. That's one problem with the Marlin. Not all states are limited to the 4 rounds. It should also have a back-up rear sight installed instead of optics only. Cooper specifired a sight back-up for the scope in case of damage and the scope had to be removed. The Marlin Guide Gun has a foward mounted buckhorn ahead of the scout scope. Maybe there should be some sort of flip up peep.
