After Governor Andrew Cuomo railroaded the Draconian “Secure Ammunition and Firearms Enforcement Act of 2013” through both houses of New York legislature in Albany—in which the oppressive bill wasn’t even allowed the normal legislative comment and inspection period—many wondered when Kahr Arms would make a move. We received our answer today. Kahr Arms, which also includes Auto-Ordnance and Magnum Research, will be “expanding its corporate offices and engineering department into Pike County, Pa., which is about an hour-and-a-half west of its current location in Pearl River, N.Y. Kahr is buying 620 acres from the Pike County Industrial Park Development Group/Business Development Corporation. The site is near Scranton, and construction is said to start as early as this year. Both Kahr’s manufacturing plants—one in Worchester, Mass., and the other in Pillager, Minn.—are working at full capacity and are not included in the move, although Kahr plans to eventually expand manufacturing to the Pennsylvania site.

I have heard from dozens of NRA members from all over the country about the conditions where they live and seek ammunition. It varies greatly. Some said they are not having trouble, while others said there isn’t a single round of .22 Long Rifle within 50 miles of where they live. Some called me a liar—or worse—some reported “scores” or long lines waiting for empty trucks. One guy told me his quest to find ammo is akin to hunting “Bigfoot”—and just about as successful.

Thanks to its XD-S in .45 ACP, Springfield Armory was one of the hottest companies of 2012. The XD-S was so innovative that it went on to be named the American Rifleman Handgun of the Year. When you knock one out of the park like that, there's not a lot that needs changing, and Springfield agreed. So, for 2013, Springfield has rolled out a slightly updated version of the XD-S: except this time it's in 9 mm.

While I’ve always been a proponent of dry firing for the early stages of skill development, the recent lack of ammunition in stores has forced me spend a lot more time pulling a trigger on an empty handgun.

The World War II-era PPSh-41 was a symbol of Russian resistance to the Nazi invasion. It's an iconic firearm, well steeped in history—and also a select-fire submachine-gun capable of full-automatic fire. That makes it a Class III firearm, so examples are subject to legal restrictions on sale, ownership and transport—not to mention quite expensive.

I am not talking about a 1980’s advertising campaign lamenting composition chicken in fast food. Guns are made out of (you guessed it) parts. Gun parts, to be precise—and a lack thereof is affecting the unmet surge in demand for semi-automatic AR-style rifles.

Often NRA members will suggest that if every one of us signed up just one new member, we could double NRA’s size overnight. How about signing up more than 16,000? And not just Annual members but Life members? In just seven weeks, from early February to the end of March, outdoor personality and nationally syndicated radio show host Tom Gresham signed up 16,630 NRA Life members.

The Sturmgewehr 44 was originally developed in Germany during World War II, and is well-known for being one of the first modern "assault rifles" to see major deployment. In honor of the Sturmgewehr, German Sport Guns has released the GSG Schmeisser STG-44—a replica model that's dialed back to semi-auto and chambered in .22 LR. It's being imported to the United States by ATI.
