The Coolest Movie Guns

Firearms have been a part of the movies since “The Great Train Robbery” flashed onto the Silver Screen in 1903. In many movies the gun is as important as the character, and often is what makes a scene iconic. AmericanRifleman.org has put together a list of 10 favorite movie guns and why they are so remembered.

What about the sawed-off 1897 Winchester shotgun from "Terminator"? I know that any top-ten list will leave out something. It's just that I've never heard of a few of these movies.

Walther PPK was the standard issue gun for Austrian police (no surprise, PPK stands for Police Pistol Short, after all), until they switched to the Glock 17. My father kept his throughout the year though. Was the first gun I ever shot. Yep, it's not really an impressive gun. But indeed the cool-factor from Bond using it is quite big.

Cymond wrote:

The whole looks smaller than it really is, and shotgun suppressors use an internal tube with small holes. The holes leak gas into the silencer but keep the pellets together. And even if the hole is a bit small (its definitely bigger than a 22), maybe the silencer is part of a choke tube. It seems like a sensible way to mount a suppressor to a shotgun. The silencer could screw into the barrel instead of onto it.

Cymond wrote:
November 17, 2010

Mike, the Beretta 92 is not a blowback. It uses a unique locking mechanism with a wedge under the barrel. The wedges are known to sometimes break after about 10,000 to 15,000 rounds, but a replacement wedge only costs about $35. Factory spec calls for a 13 pound recoil spring, so it isn't that hard to pull the slide. And recoil is comparable to any other 9mm that I've fired.

How about Barnaby Jones and that snubby revolver which he shot from the hip and never missed? Sorry, that was from TV and not a movie, but I had to throw it in. Since many of the guns of these movies were not real or modified heavily, I submit Hellboy's huge revolver.

Look again - this is no .32 - this is the .380 (9mm Kurz or "short") version - I own several of these - look carefully at the size of the hole in the muzzle. Some of his movies may very well have been made with a .32, but this ain't one of 'em...

Why is it that in every movie with a simiauto, the gun is a Berrta 9mm? It is my experiance that the Bretta is blow back, thus extremely hard to chamber a round, especially by women, and the recoil is very hard. Good gun for the military, but not every day use by amatures.
