The gun is now in the hands of Turnbull Manufacturing for a restoration and return to original condition. Watch for an article in Sep-Oct, 2011.

Dirigibles have long gone, but John Browning's legacy lives on. Neat history.

You got a nice gift there, Meteormagnent. I would like to find a holster set up like that for my Dad's 45 (shown in this part 1).Very, very nice piece.

The accessory rail/nose piece on the top Para 1911 looks interesting. Can you share where you obtained it?

The very first time I picked up a government issue 45 I pointed it down range with my eyes closed and when I opened them the sights were setting on the bullseye. That right there told me it was the gun for me.

Welcome Home, brother. I served with the 7th Marines in RVN. I wish I could have found a way to bring back my 1911.

I think that you mean "faux" ivory grips ... meaning not real ... a "faux pas" means a mistake. It's a beautiful gun ... no mistake about that!

It seems as though target sights have been added, which will most likely decrease it's value.

I also have a PT1911. It's the same model I was issued in 1972 USMC. I likd it then and now. I have other ACP's but 1911 is favorite.

That's one beautiful pistol. Never heard of Kobra, you guys should do an article on this manufacturer. Like the money clip too!

When I was a young man I worked in The Sportsmans' Center in Springfield, IL. When Colt raised the retail price of a Government Model from $82.50 to $90 I ordered one for myself, paying $70 dealer cost including shipping and taxes. That gun was modified by myself over the years with a set of King 109 sights, a Videki trigger, a target bushing and a lowered and flared port and a polished and throated ramp and barrel. My youngest son, now 30, has that gun and I have a newer SA 1911 which is a better shooter but lacks that deep Colt blue. I carry a steel Colt Officer's ACP daily, I bought it about 30 years ago in anticipation of Kansas passing shall issue concealed carry. It has sights by Richard Heinie and a modified recoil system. I have added MUESCHKE ambi safety and a beavertail. The original black phosphate finish is worn, someday I'll have it I'll have it refinished.
