I am a NRA member and subscribe to American Hunter, as well as, other hunting magazines. I have never heard of glass bedding a rifle. As a matter of fact, the gunsmith who removed and replaced the butt plate made no mention of glass bedding. Perhaps he just thought I was aware of the process and would apply it. I would like to know if it always necessary to glass bed a rifle. I recently dismantled my Springfierld 30-06 and refinished the stock. I was about to reassemble the gun when I came across this article on glass bedding a rifle. My gun is a 1903 30-06 manufactured in 1923 and has a sporterized stock. While I am not a gunsmith the action and barrel has a nice tight fit with the stock. Thanks for your feedback. Sincerely, Nick
