Coolest Gun Movies

Firearm enthusiasts are quick to point out the inaccuracies in Hollywood films featuring firearms. Can you blame us? Some of these movies, though, have affected our next gun purchase or made us think about situations for which we should be prepared. Many of these movies also take us back to simpler times, when dreaming of saving the day got us through that oh-so boring class.

No Dirty Harry? "This is a .44 magnum, the most powerful handgun int he world." And no Pulp Fiction? "We should have shotguns for this kind of deal!" And "Oh, man, I shot Marvin in the face!"

CORRECTION: John Wayne often complained the film was 'un-American.'

Wasn't "Predator" the first time we'd ever seen a mini-gun being carried, not mounted on a tripod or mounted to the side of a helicopter?

Concerning 'High Noon' ... This film was intended as an allegory in Hollywood for the failure of Hollywood people to stand up to the House Un-American Activities Committee during the Sen. Joseph McCarthy Red-baiting era, according to IMDb.com, Internet Movie Database, and that John Wayne often complained that it was 'in-American.' Also, IMDb says it was Bill Clinton's favorite movie and that he watched it 17 times during his two terms as president.

Mel Gibson used the Beretta 92 in Lethal Weapon before Bruce Willis in Die Hard, so skip the Road Warrior (its a car movie more than a gun movie, anyway!!!) and replace it with the Lethal Weapon series.....

I liked the one (I can't remember the name) where the gun owner jammed the barrel up his rear and pulled the trigger by mistake. The result was fantastic.

There are so many really wonderful films that feature firearms from early history to the SiFi versions of the future. If it shoots a projectile or a light ray ... I'd probably enjoy handling and certainly firing it. Movies have made guns magical devices to experience...but safety first and too often safety is not practiced by naive actors who leave their fingers on triggers in not action sequences. That sets a bad example for the untrained that get guns in their hands regard- less of their age. Film makers need more trained experts to correct those bad examples before they end up in the film in the first place or in the final cut.

I'm surprised by the omission of Heat from this list. Certainly compared to most films there is a far greater degree of technical accuracy than is the norm, not to mention the shoot-out following the bank robbery is perhaps the first film to truly capture the sounds of an urban firefight. I'm a little disappointed in this list.
