Zombie Targets Arise

Yikes, I just got a fright! Try it yourself and see if Birchwood Casey's newest zombie target sensation website doesn't make your heart jump.

The website is in response to the overwhelming response to their “Darkotic” targets, which depict a colorful—very colorful—assortment of “living dead” creatures that are yours to riddle with bullet holes.

According to Birchwood Casey: “Zombie shoots are gaining in popularity as shooters look for ways to add fun to their target practice sessions. In response to consumer interest in all things Darkotic, Birchwood Casey has launched a new dedicated website [that] allows fans to upload photos from their latest zombie shoot, as well as order Darkotic targets directly online.

“The new site also features slow motion video clips of Darkotic targets being shot and a "News of the Dead" section with links to online zombie games, upcoming shooting events and the all latest zombie news,” Birchwood Casey continues.

Not being a horror movie fan, I have to admit that I was surprised at the fuss zombie targets are drawing. Another target maker, Zombie Industries, offers targets that actually bleed!

Zombie Industries also sells exploding zombies. “ZOMBOOM!™ Exploding Rifle Targets allow for an easy way to help eliminate the bio-degradable material remaining after pumping hundreds of rounds into the undead. By placing ZOMBOOM! in the back of a zombie, clean-up and waste disposal will be cut by 87.2 percent, guaranteed!”

The cost of shooting the undead varies from Birchwood Casey’s 12x18-inch color posters in packs of eight for $13.98 or full-color targets printed on plain 23x35-inch paper in packs of 100 at a price of $1.98 each to $7.50 per target for an exploding zombie from Zombie Industries.

The same maker’s bleeding zombie targets cost $89.95 each in a realistic 3-D shape, made of life-like plastic and oozing red blood when shot.

I’m not quite sure what to make of the zombie shooting phenomenon, other than to prove it’s yet another reason why I’m not a gazillionaire—I never would’ve thought such a thing would sell.

There are some new zombie targets out that look more realistic than any I have seen at www.zombietargetsonline.com
