The Armed Citizen August 28, 2012

8/28/2012

Duanne Ammann, 60, owner of a convenience store, was filling a cooler with drinks around 6 p.m. when brothers Quinten Felton, 17, and Eddie Felton, 20, entered the store. Both men were wearing bandannas and ski masks. Eddie was carrying a rifle. With the barrel of the rifle pointed at his face, Ammann was ordered to open the cash register. He was then knocked to the floor where Quinten began to violently kick the store owner. During the struggle, Ammann was able to reach the handgun he kept under the store counter. He fired once hitting Quinten in the abdomen. Ammann fired three more rounds in Eddie’s direction, who still had the rifle pointed at him. They fled, but the bodies of both men were later found nearby. Ammann was treated for his injuries and released from the hospital. (The Daily Advance, Hobbsville, NC, 5/24/12)

From The Armed Citizen Archives
December 1967: Police summoned to Ernest Carter's Middletown, Ohio, grocery found Carter and clerk Junior Langworthy sitting on a suspected robber. They said the suspect entered the store and pointed a  pistol at Carter. Langworthy picked up a shotgun and covered him. The two then disarmed him and sat on him. (Cincinnati Enquirer)

From The Armed Citizen Archives
June 1988: Miami, Fla., cabdriver Mark Yuhr had just delivered his fare when the passenger pulled out a pistol and screamed demands for money. Instead, as the robber looked away momentarily, Yuhr, who was recently licensed for concealed carry under a new Florida law, reached for his own .45 and opened fire, killing his assailant. The man had an extensive criminal record that included armed robbery, firearm violations and the attempted first-degree murder of a police officer. Police said, "This sends a major message to the rest of the robbers out there." (The Herald, Miami, Fla.)

Two young brothers choose crime as a way of life and they pay the price with their lives, The old adage is right CRIME DOSE NOT PAY they found that out the hard way

When confronted with deadly threats, I believe that criminals forfiet there rights, and consequently, the outcome is entirely on their shoulders.

There are plenty of new examples out there.I don't feel a bit sorry for criminals. Why should they beat, kill,or rob hard working people.

I agree with Russ, most of this is outdated.

I am sorry for the parents who probably cry for their boys. The boys chose their actions regardless of the parenting and it is on them, not the parents.

God bless the strong, brave men and women who stand up against evil and exercise the 2nd. This is what it is all about brothers and sisters. Stand strong knowing there are 5,000,000 of us with you.

The Okla guy that went to prison for shooting another more than once. I am confused because in another story, you say don't shoot to wound...Put 3 or 4 in the chest area and possible his head. So which one do we use, "overkill" or "wound"? In a mode of self defense, you would not know whether your bullets hit their mark or not.....so yes I would fire enough times to make sure he would not kill me. Am I going to jail?

Im new to this forum. I do carry legally everywhere I go. But all commenT make are selfcensored as I don't want to appear bloodthirsty. With that said ...Never shoot to wound.Never pull your weapon or carry for that matter,if you are not prepared to make your assailants pushup daisies.

For all these successful uses of a gun in a defensive or protective mode, how many unsuccessful uses are there? Could these be presented along with suggestions on how different tactics or actions might have led to a better outcome?

All doesn't end well. When to shoot? when not to shoot and when to stop shooting. We have an Oklahoma man sitting in prison because he didn't stop shooting and the intruder died. His name is Jerome Ersland whose story needs to be told to those carry.

Eddie and Quention Felton? Names should have been Eddie & Quention Fellons. Don't do the crime if you can't do the time. In this case a lot of time.

In response to lemonfemale...it is not a good idea to wound an assailant who tries to kill you. Wounding him may hurt too much!Always try for three shots to the chest cavity, then the head if necessary. Also, you don't want a wounded person to get a second wind and hurt you, when you thought it was "over".

I don't agree that the "parents are the real criminals". Sometimes good kids from good parents go bad. I have seen it as teacher for over 30 years. No one knows why it just happens.

More examples of why every capable human being should be ready and able to defend themselves, their property, their rights, and those around them from the unlawful or immoral actions of those who prey upon others. The Second Ammendment is an extension of this right AND responsibility; and to wive it up willingly or try to strip it from others is an offense of the most heinous variety because it takes away one of the most precious of human feelings TRUE peace of mind.

It is sad this is such a "routine event"---store clerk gets robbed and someone gets severely hurt or even worse, "killed". I feel grateful that we live in a country that believes in and has the guts to stand up for our right to bare arms! It is also sad that the Law Abiding Americans have to fight so hard to keep the right to protect ourselves and our families from such violence! GOD BLESS AMERICA and the NRA!

"NJ Supporter 9/17/2012 6:36:46 AM These are perfect examples of why ALL law abiding citizens should, after proper training, be able to obtain a conceal carry permit." The above comment is typical of a New Jersey statist who believes the right to defend oneself is based on approval by the state. Who is going to give the concealed carry training ? Your beloved New Jersey government ? Who is going to write the rules for the required "training" ? Your beloved New Jersey government ? What part of 2A don't you understand ? "....shall not be INFRINGED."

These are perfect examples of why ALL law abiding citizens should, after proper training, be able to obtain a conceal carry permit. New Jersey is the most populated, and dangerous states in the country and there is 'NO' chance to legally protect ourselves. What are our politicians soo afraid of???

I noticed it was not always necessary to kill the attacker, which is another plus in my mind. BUT- the ones who were killed put themselves in that place and are responsible for their own deaths.

At 71, I'm too old for a whopping, so I carry everywhere I go and I do mean "everywhere". A "Gun Free Zone" is a "Killing Zone", so I ignore the sign unless there's a metal detector involved.

What wonderful stories! I'm glad to see these stories tell us that in America there are times when we can defend ourselves and win! As for the two young punks... well I'm glad that instead of sucking up more tax dollars being "rehabilitated" they are sharing the same address. I feel sorry for parents that have to live through this... I don't think that Beezure makes a whole lot of liberal sense... This is not spin it is real life and two punks bought the farm, I just hope that they made their peace before they bought their piece...

Beezure, at 60 you're too old to take a a$$ kickin. If the're old enough to threaten your life the're no kids. 17 and 20 year olds are old enough to know the consequences of their actions. Our armed forces have members that age.

It really does not matter the age. Gangs are recruiting members that rare killers younger and younger. Shoild the hard working 60 year old store owner and tax payer be the victim. What is needed in this country is a mandatory draft for a 2 year period. All races, religions etc. It will instill strucure and discipline.

Beezure Deesure these two duds of society received their just reward, therewas no spinning to make pointsa anybody fool enough to try to rob a person making a livig at his business does not deserve any kind of pitty from the public. All people behind the counter of any store should have access to a weapon for defense against thugs like these two,if they are old enough to pull a crime with a weapon they are old enough to suffer the concequences.

I don't disagree with any of the comments, but at 60 you aren't 'an old man' and a 17 year old is still a kid. We din't need to spin this stuff to make the point.
