Springfield XD-S 9 mm

Thanks to its XD-S in .45 ACP, Springfield Armory was one of the hottest companies of 2012. The XD-S was so innovative that it went on to be named the American Rifleman Handgun of the Year. When you knock one out of the park like that, there's not a lot that needs changing, and Springfield agreed. So, for 2013, Springfield has rolled out a slightly updated version of the XD-S: except this time it's in 9 mm.

Nearly identical to the .45 ACP version, save for the 9 mm chambering, the XD-S 9 mm provides all the perks of the original design—just with a smaller bore and substantially less recoil than its "big" brother.

You can get a closer look at the Springfield XD-S 9 mm in the video below, hosted by American Rifleman Editor-in-Chief Mark Keefe.

'Making it in 9mm defeats the purpose of the XDs.' According to Rob Latham of SPRINGFIELD ARMORY; they made the gun in 9mm for people with smaller hands, and the 9mm is also a very popular round like the 9mm so why not make it? 'We made a 9mm and then we'd have to listen to complaints about 'when will you make the .45?' Now we make the .45 and people want the 9mm! They make the guns people want... Duh

I love my XDs 45 my favorite gun for carry. The only problem now is getting it back from Springfield after it was sent in for a safety recall. A lot of frustrated owners as we can not get Springfield to talk to us on the status or eta on the return or anything. Several e- mails sent no answer and no answer to FB postings. I really want to get my gun back, it has been over three weeks with no word

I like the .45 XDS. It does a good conceal carry job and hits like an anvil. For all those struggling for ammo, should have seen this coming for years and started reloading. Ammo, no worries.

What is the availability of 45 ammo compared to 9mm. Right now ammo is hard to come buy no matter where you are located. I buy 9mm at local walmart now for last 2 months at a rate of getting 9mm 3days of the 60 days with a limit of 3 boxes per purchase. In those 60days I never seen 45 ammo available for purchase.

We purchased the XDs 45 acp several months ago. My wife fell in love with the ergonomics and having the seccurity of the larger 45 acp over her normal carry Ruger LCP 380.

I really enjoy my XDs in .45ACP. I'm sure the 9 version is the same quality with a little less bark. Clamp on a Crimson Trace laser (they designed one specifically for this pistol) and you're good to go. Wright Leather Works has a great holster that fits the XDs and its laser snugly, and is a good value for money spent.

I'm old school--just can't get into the SAO.

I forgot to mention that I do haze the XDs in 45 and I love it. I think for a pocket 9mm the Ruger LC 9 is the ticket. Both the XDs and the LC 9 are great carry in my book.

I agree. The XDs in 9 defeats the whole purpose of the design.

Is the vulgarity really necessary? How about a mature, intelligent forum without the crudeness?

No offense, but I never understood how that lil clit fore trigger makes it safe.

Just a thought, the Shield was , at one time ,the perfect carry gun.I ordered one in May of last year. I'm still waiting for Smith and Wesson to send me mine. Could't wait any more , got the XD 9mm subcompact.. more bullets.

@Silas...what is the purpose of the XDs that's defeated by the 9mm chambering?

The XDs-9 will fill that spot for the folks who are concerned with recoil, but love the XDs package. I work the gun counter at a local store and I can tell you that I have customers who fit that description. Me, I love my XDs-45 recoil is the one thing Springfield tamed very nicely. So the XDs-9 should be even better for those who choose the 9mm platform.

I agree with Silas. But there are undoubtedly people out there who will think this is the perfect gun for them.

Putting this in 9mm completely defeats the purpose of the XDs to me.
